A group of psychiatrists has determined that the teenage hacker, known for his attempted extortion of Rockstar Games by leaking confidential information related to Grand Theft Auto 6, lacks the mental competence required to participate in a legal trial. This young hacker has also been involved in unauthorized breaches of other prominent companies such as Uber and Nvidia Corp.

 

Grand Theft Auto 5 holds the distinction of being not only one of the highest-grossing video games in history, but also the most successful work of fictional media ever created, accumulating nearly $8 billion in revenue. Given the unprecedented success of its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 6, despite lacking an official trailer, stands as one of the most eagerly anticipated games of this decade. Consequently, fans avidly consume every rumor surrounding GTA 6, prompting Rockstar Games to diligently intercept and address any leaks that may reach the public domain. However, the prospect of a young hacker attempting to blackmail the company over this highly anticipated title was likely unforeseen by Rockstar Games.

The individual in question is an 18-year-old named Arion Kurtaj, a member of the hacker group Lapsus$. Kurtaj gained notoriety for his endeavor to coerce Rockstar Games into releasing the source code for Grand Theft Auto 6 to the public. Notably, Kurtaj has a history of breaching the security systems of major corporations, as demonstrated by his involvement in the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information resulting in losses amounting to nearly $3 million for Uber. A panel of psychiatrists has concluded that Kurtaj lacks the mental capacity required to stand trial. Consequently, the jury will deliberate on whether he committed the alleged crimes, rather than reaching a verdict based solely on his guilt. It is worth noting that this incident bears similarities to a subplot one might encounter within Grand Theft Auto 6, but it is indeed a factual occurrence. Kurtaj was accompanied by an unidentified partner in his criminal activities, who demanded a ransom of $4 million from EE, a prominent British mobile company. These two hackers were considered integral members of Lapsus$. Operating on a global scale, Lapsus$ is believed to be a highly organized collective, having targeted prominent entities such as Samsung, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Ubisoft.

Kurtaj is facing multiple charges, including three counts of blackmail, as well as nine additional offenses, including fraud. Likewise, his unidentified accomplice is currently on trial for two counts of fraud, two counts of blackmail, and three related offenses, although he denies any wrongdoing. As of now, Rockstar Games has not issued any official statements regarding these developments or provided any updates on the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6.
